Home care your way: Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI)

It’s all change for home care funding, thanks to the new Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) program. Provided by Alberta Health Services (AHS), this scheme allows you to manage your own home care services directly. You can choose your own home care provider, and tailor your care to your specific needs and wishes, with funding from CDHCI.

Your home care, your choice

If you are a new or current AHS Community Home Care client, you can choose an approved home care provider agency to deliver your care up to a set limit of hours per month. AHS will decide on the maximum number of hours after assessing your specific needs and requirements.

Vytality at Home are delighted to be an approved Client Directed Home Care provider in Calgary. You’ll find us on the list of approved home care providers at the Alberta Blue Cross website.

If you’d like to discuss more about our award-winning home care services and funding via CDHCI, do contact us. We offer a consultation to discuss your needs and requirements, and potential sources of funding including CDHCI.

The benefits of CDHCI

CDHCI gives you much more control over the provision and delivery of your home care. You can choose who delivers your care, when, and at what level.

If you would like more care than the CDHCI program will fund, you can simply agree what you want with your home care provider, and pay for the extra cost of additional care direct to your home care company. You can also adjust the type and level of care with your home care provider as required – you just need to keep the CDHCI team informed of any changes to your health and/or requirements.

Who is eligible for CDHCI?

To apply for CDHCI, you need:

  • To be eligible for home care as approved by AHS
  • Your home care assessment to show that CDHCI is a good option for you
  • To check if CDHCI doesn’t conflict with any other scheme or agreement with AHS that you might have
  • To have “predictable care needs”

Under the CDHCI program, AHS funds home care to a fixed hourly rate. If your chosen home care provider charges more than this rate, you will need to fund the difference yourself.

How CDHCI works

First you need to contact AHS. You can either:

• Contact your current AHS Case Manager

OR

• Self-refer by calling the AHS Home Care team on 811, or the Calgary team at 403-943-1920 (or) 1-888-943-1920

An AHS case manager will visit you in your own home to make their assessment and draw up your Service Care Plan. This will lay out the maximum number of home care hours that CDHCI will fund per month. You’ll also need to complete and sign some paperwork.

Once that’s in place, you just call us! Vytality at Home is an approved home care provider for Calgary, so contact us and we’ll take it from there.
